Après un long séjour à l'étranger, Albrecht revient à Hambourg, sa ville natale. Conformément aux souhaits de sa famille, il doit épouser sa séduisante cousine Octavia. Le jeune couple s'installe dans une villa des bords de l'Elbe. Rapidement, Albrecht fait la connaissance d'Aels Flodéen, une ravissante Nordique qui vient chaque année se faire soigner dans la région. Ils se découvrent une passion commune : le cheval.
