Valérie, 18 ans, et sa mère Trudy vivent ensemble dans la campagne d'Oostdijk, un petit village tranquille près d'Amsterdam. En rentrant chez elle un soir, Trudy meurt écrasée par une voiture. L’autopsie révèle qu’elle n’a jamais eu d’enfant. Peu après, d'autres faits étranges commencent à apparaître. Pendant que l'inspecteur de police Mellema traque le conducteur de la voiture, Valérie commence à chercher ses vrais parents...
