Les supérieurs de sa congrégation n'apprécient pas ses manières peu conventionnelles d'enseigner. Sans le savoir, le Frère Jean aura un impact important dans la vie de ses élèves, particulièrement dans celle d'Émile, un jeune homme qui éprouve des difficultés à l'école et qui préférerait abandonner ses études pour aller travailler dans une usine.
