Teacher Majer is released from prison under an amnesty. His elementary school classmate Ivan, who lives in a Roma ghetto, takes him into his home. Majer has no family. He has no one left, so he welcomes Ivan's offer. Ivan tells Majer that he has decided to help him mainly because he needs to reopen the school where Majer used to teach and briefly served as principal. Living in the ghetto, Ivan is familiar with the problems of his community and knows that the closure of their beloved school has not been good for them. Majer begins to reach out to his former colleagues and, above all, his students to ask for their help. Many of his students also have children of their own. He experiences a number of comical situations with them. However, he has no idea that he is still being watched by Dostál, the eldest member of the mafia family, who knows that Majer has been released and decides to avenge his son and grandson.

The third part takes us into the family of eleven-year-old Anička and her mother, where Anička's desire to be the only important person in her mother's life leads to unexpected events.

James Gannon (Clark Gable) est rédacteur en chef d'un grand journal new-yorkais. Son métier, il l'a appris sur le tas et considère donc l'instruction comme une perte de temps. Aussi lorsque le professeur Stone l'invite a donner quelques conférences à son cours de journalisme, il lui envoie une lettre de refus lui expliquant de manière cinglante son point de vue. Apprenant la nouvelle, le directeur du journal oblige Gannon à se rendre sur place pour s'excuser afin de plaire à leur éditeur qui fait partie du conseil d'administration de l'université où enseigne le professeur Stone. Sur place quelle n'est pas sa surprise de découvrir que le professeur Stone est non seulement une femme, mais une fort jolie femme (Doris Day). Mais avant qu'il ait pu l'aborder, l'ayant pris pour un étudiant, elle le fait assoir avant de lire à la classe la lettre de Gannon et de ridiculiser ce dernier en le qualifiant de relique du passé. Piteux, Gannon quitte discrètement la classe.
