Nazcas, les lignes qui parlaient au ciel
Cartes du ciel ? Calendriers astrologiques ? Pistes d’atterrissage pour extraterrestres ? Les géoglyphes du désert de Nazca, observables dans le sud du Pérou, au pied de la cordillère des Andes, intriguent. Ces formes de taille monumentale – les plus grandes dépassent les 100 mètres d’envergure –, ont été tracées entre 700 av. J.-C. et 100 apr. J.-C. sur un territoire d’environ 500 km². Elles sont le mystérieux legs de la civilisation des Nazcas, installée dans la pampa péruvienne jusqu’à son effondrement, vers l’an 600, vraisemblablement dû à la désertification.

Return is a methodical construction of the approach of an individual towards an unseen goal, which assumes metaphorical significance. Viola moves toward the camera/viewer, pausing every few steps to ring a bell, at which point he is momentarily thrust back to his starting place, and then advanced again. Finally reaching his destination, he is taken through all of the previous stages in a single instant and returned to the source of his journey.
