La Continental naît à Paris en 1940. Société de production créée par l'occupant, elle est dirigée par Alfred Greven. Pendant les années d'occupation, Greven s'assure les services des meilleurs artistes et techniciens pour produire des films à succès, divertissants. En parallèle, il profite de la spoliation des biens juifs pour racheter cinémas, studios et laboratoires. Son objectif : fonder un second Hollywood.
