Karen est mariée à Otto, un psychiatre pratiquant l’hypnothérapie. Leur fille Jordan est lycéenne. Une nuit, Karen fait un rêve très perturbant mettant en scène l’assassinat d’une jeune fille qu’elle ne connaît pas. Plus tard, elle a des visions de la victime, ce qui l’empêche de mener à bien un rendez-vous professionnel très important. Choquée, elle demande à son mari de l’hypnotiser afin de remonter aux sources de son malaise.
