Derrière les remparts de pierre de la pittoresque Saint-Malo, le commissaire Dupin doit élucider le meurtre d'une cuisinière de renom. Détail piquant : la défunte a été poignardée sous les yeux de Dupin par sa propre sœur. Il découvre derrière ce meurtre apparemment évident un drame familial vieux de plusieurs décennies, qui fait encore des victimes aujourd'hui.
