Le docteur David Banner, médecin et homme de science cherchant à canaliser les forces occultes que recèle tout être humain voit un jour la chimie de son organisme modifiée par une émission de rayons gamma. Depuis lorsqu'il ressent une offense ou un choc émotionnel une saisissante métamorphose s'opère... La créature qu'il devient, animée par la rage, est recherchée pour un meurtre qu'elle n'a pas commis, et traquée par le journaliste Jack McGee. David Banner est officiellement mort, et doit le reste... jusqu'à ce qu'il arrive à contrôler la force dévastatrice qui sommeille en lui... Le visage recouvert de bandage et amnésique après un accident de la route, David embarque dans un petit avion où se trouve également Jack McGee. Ce dernier est persuadé que cet homme mystérieux a un lien avec Hulk...
