La Légende de Zatoïchi, Vol. 24 : La Blessure
Sur un pont délabré, Zatoichi provoque involontairement la mort d’une vieille femme. Rongé par le remords, il se met à la recherche de sa fille dont il sait seulement qu’elle est prostituée à Ogiya, une maison close du port de Choshi. Il finit par la retrouver et gagne la somme nécessaire pour la racheter à la table de jeu de Mangoro, un satanique parrain qui règne sur Choshi. Zatoichi se met alors en tête de remettre la prostituée dans le droit chemin, avec une insistance qui va le rendre sourd aux cris désespérés de la population persécutée par les hommes de Mangoro.

La nostalgie le pousse à franchir les portes du village qui, à sa grande surprise, retentit de clameurs de bienvenue. Ce n’est pas lui la cause de cette effervescence, mais Shinbei, ancien du village, revenu pour payer les dettes des paysans ruinés. Pourtant, la générosité de ce marchand parvenu, qui est aussi l’ami d’enfance de Zatoichi, cache un plan crapuleux : le contrôle de l’économie locale, avec l’aide d’un clan yakuza et du gouverneur corrompu. Et Zatoichi aura toutes les peines du monde à expliquer aux paysans naïfs les véritables intentions de leur « bienfaiteur ».
