Dans un poste de police de Los Angeles, il est rapporté que les perles de Norma Shearer ont été volés. Un détective est envoyé à la maison de l'actrice pour interroger les invités du parti, dont la plupart sont célèbres stars d'Hollywood. Le détective finit par chasser conduit dans toute la ville, de se retrouver dans un studio de cinéma, où il apprend la vérité derrière « les perles glissantes ».
