L'espoir de Noël
Sarah est maire de la petite ville de Saint-Nicolas, dans l'Iowa. Toute sa vie, elle a fait de son mieux pour apporter tranquillité et prospérité à cette modeste bourgade américaine. Lorsque l'unique médecin de la ville meurt, c'est le village tout entier qui se trouve menacé. L'hôpital, qui vient tout juste d'être construit, risque de fermer ses portes, au grand dam de Sarah. Celle-ci décide alors de convaincre son vieil ami, Mike Greiser, de reprendre le flambeau. Mais ce dernier, médecin à Chicago, ne souhaite pas s'enfermer dans ce petit hôpital de campagne.
