"Autrefois nous étions des oiseaux" conte une une légende tzigane lorsque ces derniers étaient encore des oiseaux. Conte métaphorique qui relate la triste histoire d'oiseaux migrants, attirés un beau jour, vers un dôme doré aux grandes richesses. Tous s'y rendent, charmés par tant d'opulence, sauf leur Guide qui s'y refuse voyant le piège et le peu d'intérêt proposé par tant de bijoux et de belles choses. amoureux et triste d'un tel fait, et sentant que "son peuple perd son âme", il se jettera sur une falaise laissant seulement une plume rouge tombée jusque sa fiancée que le Paon, maître des lieux, courtise vivement. S'y refusant, et l'hiver venu, lorsque ils se décident à reprendre leur vol, en haut d'une montagne, c'est alors qu'ils comprennent qu'ils ne sont plus des oiseaux... La fin parle d'elle-même. A voir absolument, surtout notamment pour sa musique et son orchestration, et la qualité du dessin.
