1949. Abitibi. Pour son fils Louis, un adorable gamin aux fossettes rieuses, Robert Sincenne est un héros. Mais pour les patrons de la mine où il travaille, l’Église catholique et le tout puissant Premier Ministre du Québec, Maurice Duplessis, il est l’ennemi. Communiste et libre-penseur, Robert veut en effet prendre la tête du syndicat de la Sullidor Mining. Lorsque son rival Richard Bombardier est accidentellement tué, son destin se scelle. Du moins pour quelque temps, avant qu’il ne parte en exil. Neuf ans plus tard, le petit Louis devenu grand s’est lié d’amitié avec Némésis, la fille de la veuve de Bombardier. Leur complicité les mènera jusqu’en Irlande.
