L'armée française s'intéresse de près aux ovnis, ces objets volants non identifiés. Le Cnes, centre national d'études spatiales, a même distribué un questionnaire à tous les pilotes français pour savoir s'ils avaient observé, au moins une fois, un phénomène qu'ils n'ont pas pu expliquer. Le but est de les répertorier dans une base de données. Jusqu'à présent, les pilotes étaient en effet réticents à en parler par peur de ne pas être pris au sérieux. En Suède, la région d'Hessdalen attire d'ailleurs de nombreux scientifiques pour la fréquence de ces phénomènes. Aux Etats-Unis, en revanche, l'armée préfère les dissimuler à la population, quitte à mentir.
