Au cours de son premier voyage, Almar, jeune marin norvegien, se retrouve abandonne par son bateau dans un port espagnol. En attendant que sa montre en or soit reparee par deux vieux horlogers aussi lents que meticuleux, Almar fait la connaissance d'un vieux loup de mer australien qui va l'entrainer dans un monde etranger et beau. Cette beaute va se manifester a travers une jeune femme espagnole, Marta, determinee et sure d'elle. Un nouveau monde s'ouvre pour lui.
