À la suite de la première guerre sino-japonaise (1894-1895), un groupe de seigneurs de guerre japonais calcule que c'est la meilleure façon de préparer une invasion du reste de la Chine depuis leur terrain de rassemblement du sud de la Mandchourie. Ils forment une alliance avec le général Tao, un important courtier du pouvoir dans le royaume, incitant d'autres généraux chinois à se rallier contre lui.

Return is a methodical construction of the approach of an individual towards an unseen goal, which assumes metaphorical significance. Viola moves toward the camera/viewer, pausing every few steps to ring a bell, at which point he is momentarily thrust back to his starting place, and then advanced again. Finally reaching his destination, he is taken through all of the previous stages in a single instant and returned to the source of his journey.

With this project we bring foreward this problem, witch not only affects the third world, but is a worldwide situation witch needs to be adressed.
