Florinne, jeune et élégant mannequin parisien, est la fille de Rose et Frédéric, aubergistes aux environs de Paris. Elle aime un riche prince d'Urganie, Djelal. Florine l'amène à l'auberge pour un déjeuner, mais en clients, elle ne dévoile rien sur sa parenté avec les aubergistes. Djelal est accompagné d'amis, l'attaché d'ambassadeur Teddy d'Aubricourt et Kundji qu’il présente comme l’épouse de Teddy. Athenaïs, la tante de Florinne, femme de lettres aux romans impubliables, curieuse et imaginative, est aussi téléphoniste à l'auberge. Elle a perçu une conversation de Kundji qui serait la femme de Djelal. Aussitôt, elle rapporte sa découverte à Florinne. Furieuse, blessée dans son amour-propre, Florinne met au point sa revanche...
