Les chemins de Ruth, Rachel, Robert, Rona et Richard, cinq habitants d'un immeuble, se croisent et se décroisent. Ils ne se connaissent pas mais tous ont deux points en commun : chacun est à un moment de sa vie où il cherche une relation humaine et vraie afin de se défaire de ses angoisses ; et chacun fait appel à un des cinq sens pour s'affirmer dans la vie.
