Mirko and Genziano are two 35-year-old brothers who have not seen each other since their mother died in a freak accident in which they were involved—eighteen years ago. When Marcello dies, he leaves a task for the two brothers in his will: he asks them to take, on an old restored roadster, his ashes to the grave of his old mother in a village in Calabria, where the accident happened.

Fatty est le chef-cuisinier d'un restaurant dont Buster Keaton est le serveur. Un grand classique de situation dans les comédies burlesques et l'occasion pour Roscoe de montrer sa dextérité à jongler avec les plats et les couteaux et reprend des gags de Fatty boucher ou Fatty chez lui. Une longue scène du film est une parodie de la danse de Salomé. L'irruption du truand Al St John venu faire la caisse est le prétexte à une bagarre et Luke finira par y mettre bon ordre. Ces deux personnages sont les protagonistes d'une course-poursuite qui se déroule en parallèle de la comédie elle-même pour la rejoindre au moment du dénouement. On retrouve nos personnages lors d'un repas pris à l'office à la fin du service et le film se termine par le repos de l'après-midi que Fatty consacre à la pêche non loin d'un parc d'attraction où se trouvent Alice Lake et Buster Keaton. La fin du film est difficile à suivre car le film est fragmenté et incomplet.

Gina et Lello sont deux conjoints escrocs qui se retrouvent à devoir garder un enfant de 10 ans, Nino, lors d'un coup sur la côte amalfitaine. L'enfant, qui se trouvait dans la voiture qu'ils ont volée, profite de la situation du « kidnappé » pour tenter de faire la paix avec ses parents qui sont sur le point de se séparer. Lello et Gina, restant avec le petit, s'attachent peu à peu à lui, et entre les trois naîtra une relation de complicité qui les conduira à vivre une série d'aventures en réalisant leur escroquerie à plusieurs reprises. Celui-ci voit Lello jouer le rôle d'un riche chocolatier suisse venu en ville pour faire un don, tandis que Gina joue le rôle d'un médecin ami d'un notaire censé aider les riches Suisses à faire le don. Pendant ce temps, un commissaire de police, appelé par les parents de Nino, va poursuivre les trois "fugitifs".
