Avec l'apparition de l'entreprise privée, l'argent utilisé comme moyen de repousser les limites du troc a permis au tricheur d'exploiter l'honnête homme qui, pour se protéger, a fait appel à la protection du gouvernement, mais a vite découvert qu'il faisait face à deux voleurs : le courtier et le pilleur politique qui travaillaient main dans la main contre lui. Avec cette combine, le courtier a acquis le prestige de l'approbation politique accordée en vertu de la loi et l'État a obtenu un moyen douteux d'imposer des impôts aux citoyens (par le biais d'un impôt caché appelé l'inflation). C'est une alliance vicieuse, qui reste vicieuse. »
