S'appuyant sur le déroulement du procès d'Al Capone, à l'issu duquel le mafieux le plus célèbre des États-Unis a été condamné à 11 ans de prison pour fraude fiscale, Patrick Jeudy retrace la saga criminelle qui a fait les belles heures du Chicago de la prohibition. Si, en janvier 1947, Al Capone meurt dans l'indifférence générale, 20 ans plus tôt, il régnait en maître sur le monde des jeux, de l'alcool et du sexe. Rien n'échappait à ce flambeur sans scrupules qui avait bâti son empire mafieux sur la force et la corruption. Policiers, juges, journalistes, ils étaient nombreux à manger dans la main du syndicat du crime, assurant l'impunité du « boss ». Jusqu'au jour où le chef de la brigade des Incorruptibles, Eliot Ness, a fait son entrée en scène. Entre les deux hommes, une lutte à mort s’est engagée...
