Soukyuu no Fafner - Right of Left
L'histoire se passe juste avant les événements de la série. Yumi, une élève en dernière année de lycée est surprise par les nombreuses remises de diplômes organisés lors de sa dernière année. En réalité, la plupart de ses camarades connaissent l'existence des Festums, et se préparent à aller aider le reste de l'humanité. Même Ryou, son meilleur ami, est au courant, mais lui ne peut pas partir. Un jour, alors qu'ils étaient à la plage, le père de Yumi, qui était gravement malade, meurt. Mais, avant de mourir, il a laissé au père de Soushi un plan permettant d'éloigner les recherches continus organisés par les Festums sur l'île. Yumi, Ryou et d'autres enfants de leur âge sont choisie pour cette opération.

The film is a continuous time-lapse with multiple exposures of the sunset from the same angle and position on 16mm film. The shoot was done in a span of 5 years. The title 13 is because the time-lapse has a 13-second interval per frame.

Filmed April 12, 2003 at a benefit concert held at and for The Anthology Film Archives, the international center for the preservation, study, and exhibition of avant-garde and independent cinema. In addition to screening films for the public, AFA houses a film museum, research library and art gallery. The event, which raised money for the Archives and celebrated the life and work of avant-garde film maker Stan Brakhage, featured Sonic Youth providing an improvised instrumental collaboration with silent Brakhage’s films. The band performed with drummer/percussionist Tim Barnes (Essex Green, Jukeboxer, Silver Jews).
