Jack, qui vit avec sa fille Olivia depuis son divorce, lui offre pour Noël un chien, un labrador baptisé Ours. Mais celui-ci s'enfuit, est récupéré par la fourrière et immédiatement adopté par Maggie, qui l'offre à son fils Ethan, qu'elle élève seule depuis la mort de son mari. Très vite, Jack retrouve la trace de Maggie et souhaite récupérer son chien...
