Casablanca... Dean Baker, autrefois un célèbre romancier, devenu un alcoolique, vivant séparé de sa femme, décide de se suicider. Il avale le contenu d’un flacon de somnifère mais soudain, terrifié à l’idée de mourir il appelle à l’aide un hôpital... Il se remet. Une femme à laquelle il est lié, l’emmène au casino. Bien qu’il soit à moitié ivre, la chance est avec lui et finalement il gagne une fortune ! Mais dans son aventure, il a signé une carte demandant à quiconque la trouverait de le tuer en échange de la fortune qu’il vient de gagner. Il va essayer de récupérer par tous les moyens cette carte, mais n’y parviendra pas. Que va devenir Dean Baker ? Comment va-t’il échapper à cette mort certaine ?
