Au lendemain de la Première Guerre mondiale, qui a fait quelque 37 millions de victimes, le président Woodrow Wilson est déterminé à créer la Société des nations. Il se rend à Paris où convergent les délégués de plus d'une trentaine de pays pour entreprendre les pourparlers de paix les plus ambitieux de l'histoire. Présidée par le Conseil des quatre (les dirigeants des États-Unis, de la France, de la Grande-Bretagne et de l'Italie), la Conférence de Paris aura ironiquement semé le ressentiment et pavé la voie à la Deuxième Guerre mondiale. Dans ce remarquable exploit cinématographique, le réalisateur Paul Cowan amalgame avec brio les reconstitutions et les séquences d'archives pour nous faire vivre l'une des plus importantes rencontres du 20e siècle. Inspiré du succès de librairie de Margaret MacMillan, Paris 1919 relate un événement historique extraordinaire au cours duquel on a éliminé des empires, redessiné les cartes, et rédigé le Traité de Versailles.
