Le trou noir ne s'étant, malgré les apparences, pas tout à fait refermé, un énorme insecte ailé en émerge et pond un œuf avant de repartir. Un enfant s'en empare et, par un concours de circonstances, est amené à le cacher dans les égouts. L'œuf finit par éclore et bientôt, une gigantesque méganula arpente la ville à la recherche de nourriture.
