C'est l'histoire amère d'un homme d'âge moyen, qui déteste sa vie et les autres, y compris lui-même. Adam Miauczynski, le personnage connu des films précédents du réalisateur Marek Koterski, est un enseignant de 44 ans, qui lit de la poésie pendant les cours et rentre plus tard chez lui en jurant et en appelant les noms de ses voisins. La pire douleur pour lui, ce sont les 5 prochaines minutes de vie. Il ne s'accepte pas et même les contacts quotidiens avec les autres provoquent son agressivité. Bien qu'il rêve constamment d'un amour romantique, il n'est pas assez audacieux pour réaliser ses rêves. Le désespéré Miauczynski personnalise nos propres peurs et obsessions, devenues si visibles ces derniers temps.
