Dupé à se joindre à la RAF par un juge rusé, Voyou Horace Pope a des vues sur la principale chance, les équipes avec gypsy-lent d'esprit, bon cœur Pedlar Pascoe, et travaille une raquette lucrative en escroquant ses deux collègues et la RAF. Par le biais de divers programmes sournoises Pape et Pascoe gérer pour éviter les lignes de front jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient envoyés en France - où ils se trouvent en contact inattendu et trop proche avec l'ennemi.
