Naruto les en sauve et ils se rendent tous aux matchs préliminaires où Naruto est confronté à Konohamaru. Malheureusement, en raison d'une querelle, Naruto et Konohamaru n'entendent pas une grande partie des règles. Après les encouragements de la foule, Konohamaru commence la bataille en lançant une bombe fumigène puis utilise un Orbe Tourbillonnant Géant, une technique que Naruto ne lui avait pas enseignée auparavant. Naruto est capable de l'éviter de justesse. Ensuite, tous deux utilisent la technique du Multi Clonage Supra et s'attaquent l'un l'autre, Naruto avec un Rasengan et Konohamaru avec un kunaï.
