Tom Rosser est Shérif d'une petite ville du Kansas, il est menacé en 1879 par le patron des tripots, Condor, qui a payé un tueur pour l'éliminer. Mais celui-ci rate sa cible et descend l'épouse de Rosser. Le Shérif démissionne et part à la recherche de Condor pour venger sa femme. Mais là, le maire et le médecin du lieu lui demandent de débarrasser la ville des hors-la-loi...
