En 2016, l'historien spécialiste de l'Holocauste Stephan Hördler découvre aux Etats-Unis un album photo inédit, capturant l'ascension de jeunes Allemands au sein de la SS entre 1928 et 1943. Son analyse approfondie des images dévoile leur endoctrinement au camp de Lichtenburg et la solidarité qui les liait, offrant un nouvel éclairage sur l'origine commune des bourreaux nazis et leur unité avant 1933.
