Early morning silence is broken by screeching tires as a helicopter bears down on a speeding vehicle. Taking a quick corner, the team tumbles out into the woods as their car pulls away. Now they must make their way through the thick of nature and thick gunfire to accomplish their mission. Not a single word of dialogue is spoken throughout the entire film. Instead, the music, sounds, images and deeply truthful acting turn a simple plot into an intense experience. Passion and intrigue keep building to the very end.

Return is a methodical construction of the approach of an individual towards an unseen goal, which assumes metaphorical significance. Viola moves toward the camera/viewer, pausing every few steps to ring a bell, at which point he is momentarily thrust back to his starting place, and then advanced again. Finally reaching his destination, he is taken through all of the previous stages in a single instant and returned to the source of his journey.

Après 20 ans d'absence, Ulysse échoue sur les côtes d'Ithaque, hagard et méconnaissable. Le roi est enfin rentré chez lui, mais beaucoup de choses ont changé dans son royaume depuis son départ pour la guerre de Troie. Sa femme bien-aimée, Pénélope, est désormais prisonnière de sa propre maison, harcelée par ses nombreux et ambitieux prétendants pour choisir un nouveau mari, un nouveau roi. Leur fils Télémaque, qui a grandi sans père, risque la mort aux mains des prétendants qui le considèrent comme un obstacle dans leur quête du royaume.

Malgré leur multiples alliances, l'armée du Japon et Godzilla sont toujours ennemis. L'armée décide donc de construire un nouveau Mechagodzilla. Malheureusement, celui-ci subit des pannes toutes les 10 minutes. L'armée est donc obligée de reprendre le modèle original, qui se révolte et qui part attaquer Godzilla.
