La Conquête De La Meije
Denis Ducroz signe pour la série de documentaires Les Ascensions Célèbres cette reconstitution historique de la première ascension de la Meije à travers l'étymologie, la géographie physique et l'histoire de l'apparition de l'alpinisme dans le massif de l'Oisans. La première ascension du Grand Pic fut effectuée le 16 août 1877 par Emmanuel Boileau de Castelnau avec Pierre Gaspard et fils ; la cordée se déplaça en progressant sur l'arête du Promontoire en face sud jusqu'au Glacier carré où Jean-Baptiste Rodier, deuxième porteur, se sépara des trois alpinistes qui réussirent à surmonter glace et granit pour ouvrir la célèbre "voie normale" jusqu'au sommet.

L'expédition française du Groupe Militaire de Haute Montagne (G.M.H.M.) sur l'Everest en 1981, dirigée par le général Pierre Astorg, a eu lieu sur la face nord de la montagne. Quinze alpinistes militaires ont participé à cette expédition qui a duré environ quatre-vingt-dix jours. Leur objectif était d'atteindre le sommet en suivant une approche de siège, mais malgré leurs efforts, l'expédition a échoué à atteindre le sommet. Les militaires français, engagés depuis le début de mars dans la face Nord de l'Everest (8 848 mètres), ont renoncé à moins de 300 mètres du sommet. Les grimpeurs, Jean-Claude Mosca, Hervé Sachetat et Hubert Giot, ont renoncé à installer, à 8 600 mètres, le camp 7, dernier camp intermédiaire prévu. Les mauvaises conditions météorologiques et l'état physique des membres de l'expédition sont à l'origine de cet échec d'une expédition pourtant minutieusement préparée...
