De nos jours, en Inde comme partout ailleurs, les crimes sont préparés et perpétrés en toute impunité, en plein jour et au milieu de la foule. Shakhti, un chauffeur de taxi serviable et insouciant, se retrouve mêlé malgré lui à de sombres histoires et s'attire les foudres de trois hommes : un bijoutier véreux, un agent en assurances et un caïd déchu. Tous trois ont juré sa mort. Mais le jeune homme, ne se doutant de rien, poursuit son rêve : gagner le coeur de Leena, sa charmante voisine.
