Au sommet de sa carrière de grimpeuse, Catherine Destivelle se rend aux États-Unis pour échapper aux compétitions et se ressourcer. Là, elle traverse l'Utah et le Wyoming en voiture pour réaliser de spectaculaires ascensions en solo intégral à Indian Creek, où elle s'impose en solo sur « Supercrack » (5,10 d), dans le parc d'État de Dead Horse Point, et sur l'emblématique Devil's Tower, où elle escalade sans corde la seconde moitié de la voie classique de 40 mètres « El Matador » (5,10 d).
