Sans avoir connaissance du crime commis quelques heures plus tôt, ils réquisitionnent le chariot de la veuve et lui demandent de les conduire à la frontière autrichienne. S'ensuit un long trajet à travers les forêts pour échapper aux armées encore toutes proches.
