Le film de Georgi Daneliya « Afonya » a été un succès commercial inattendu en URSS. Le personnage principal « Afonya » Borshev est un plombier, qui passe sa vie avec des « copains » et fait la fête, dont il a du mal à se souvenir après des nuits de forte consommation d'alcool. Sa femme le quitte, son patron le met à l'épreuve, toute sa vie tombe en morceaux, mais il ne le voit pas. Afonya a rencontré Katya dans un club de danse, mais lui a peu prêté d'attention. Pourtant elle est celle qui peut le sauver ... Dans ce film Daneliya atteint un équilibre parfait de la satire et du drame.
