Dans une Sardaigne froide et sombre, le crime d'une très jeune fille cache une réalité choquante. Sante Moras, un ancien policier devenu gardien de prison, est accusé d'un meurtre qu'il n'a pas commis : un homme, coupable d'avoir torturé et tué une jeune fille, est retrouvé mort pendant sa garde à vue. Contraint de fuir et poursuivi par le commissaire Tommaso Lago, Sante décide que la seule façon de se sauver est d'aller jusqu'au bout et de chercher la vérité. Grâce à l'aide de Fabiana Lai, une journaliste qui suit l'affaire, il va découvrir des vérités déconcertantes : Sante n'est pas le seul à être en danger, et il doit agir avant que d'autres jeunes filles innocentes ne soient tuées.
