Diana et Brian, un couple de varappeurs, escaladent une falaise à pic. Leur joie intense est de courte durée lorsque Brian fait une chute mortelle et disparaît sans laisser de traces. Trois ans plus tard, Diana, inconsolable depuis sa disparition, fait la rencontre de Curt. Celui-ci l'engage comme guide et lui promet de l'aider à retrouver le corps de Brian.
