Hernán, 24 ans, est livreur. Depuis que sa famille a émigré en Espagne, il vit seul dans la maison familiale, vide à présent et pleine de souvenirs. Il est amoureux de Pato, employée d'une station essence, mais n'ose pas lui déclarer ses sentiments. Tout change lorsqu'il se rend compte que Pato cherche un logement : il lui propose alors de lui louer une pièce chez lui. Après quelques temps commence entre eux une relation amoureuse apparemment idyllique. Soudain, les parents de Pato débarquent de province et demandent l'hospitalité pour une nuit dans la maison de Hernán. La famille est courtoise et aimable, mais les jours passent et ils ne s'en vont pas... Le désarroi de Hernán est d'autant plus grand que Venancio, le père de Pato, installe sans crier gare de vieilles machines et décide de monter une usine de churros au beau milieu de la salle de séjour.
