Sur fond de trame policière, Shuffle, adaptation de Run, le manga de Katsuhiro " Akira " Otomo, est construit comme une poursuite non-stop qui bascule dans le délire punk. Le film relève du genre " urbain-grotesque " inventé par l'école underground japonaise des années 1980 dont Ishii était alors un des représentants majeurs.
