Dans la Pologne de 1987, dans un monastère coupé du monde, les moines gèrent une clinique pour possédés. Un jour, un jeune policier vient au couvent. Se faisant passer pour un ecclésiastique, il pénètre dans la vie monastique et tente d'expliquer la récente et mystérieuse disparition de plusieurs détenus tourmentés. Il s’avère cependant qu’il n’y a aucun moyen de sortir du monastère…
