Jack Chandeller, une ancienne star de la chanson, et Betty Woodward, professeure de poésie à l’université, se détestent depuis dix ans. Quand leurs deux meilleurs amis, Naomi et Simon, leur demandent d’être témoins à leur mariage et de leur composer une chanson originale, tous les deux sont contraints de travailler ensemble. Ils vont alors découvrir qu’ils se sont trompés l’un sur l’autre et qu’ils ont plus de points communs qu’ils ne le pensaient.
